Child Dedication

Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. – Jesus

A precedent for the ceremony of baby dedication is found throughout the scriptures.
Hannah and Elkanah presented their son, Samuel, to the Lord. – 1 Samuel 1:27-28
Paul reminded Timothy of his spiritual heritage. – 2 Timothy 1:5, 3:15
Mary and Joseph presented Jesus back to God in an act of dedication. – Luke 2:22, 40
As a grown man, our Lord loved the little children. – Mark 10:13-16

… publicly affirming your personal faith and trust in Christ.
… committing yourself to pray often for the physical, mental, social and spiritual welfare of your child.
… as an example to your child, participating in the life of the church on a regular and consistent basis.
… modeling before your child your love for God and His Word in your home.
… looking and praying for teachable moments when you may present the love of Christ to your child that he or she may share in the joy of a personal relationship with Him.
… receiving the commitment of the members of the church to support you as you endeavor to raise your child in a way that honors God.

The Biblical example is that every person who has believed in Jesus Christ should be baptized.
Those who accepted his message were baptized,… – Acts 2:41
In light of this example we wait until children are mature enough to make a decision for Christ on their own before baptizing them. If your child has come to believe in Christ for salvation and would like to be baptized, please set up a time with Pastor Mark or Pastor Liz to discuss the child’s faith with them. Parents are encouraged to participate in this discussion.
We encourage all parents to dedicate their children to the Lord. It is a beautiful ceremony where your friends, family and church come around you in prayer and support.

Child dedication ceremonies occur in the context of our Sunday morning worship services. We encourage you to invite your family and friends to such an important occasion.
Pastor Mark would like to meet with the child and his or her parents a few minutes prior to the service to go over the order of worship and answer any of your questions. He will set up the time and place with you once your child’s dedication date is selected.
